Job upgrades are an upselling opportunity that allow employers to increase the prominence of their job posting on the job board. Recruiters can add an upgrade at two points in the process: while posting a new job through the job posting wizard, or afterward, by upgrading a job that has already been published.
Job upgrades benefit both sides of the job board. Recruiters gain better visibility for their job postings, which typically helps them reach more candidates. Job board owners, in turn, gain a new revenue stream beyond the standard job posting fee, since upgrades are sold as an additional, optional purchase.
Once a site-admin defines an upgrade in the backend, it becomes available automatically in the "Upgrades" step (Step 3) of the job posting wizard on the frontend. Site-admins don't need to do anything further to make it appear there; it shows up as soon as it's created.
It is also possible to offer upgrades as a self-service product, where employers purchase a set of credits in advance through a checkout process and then use those credits to apply upgrades to their jobs whenever needed. This option is not active by default. If a job board would like to offer this, the site-admin should contact their Project Manager or Customer Success Manager to have it activated.
Available upgrade types
Below is an overview of all available upgrade options that can be offered on the job board:
| UPGRADE | DESCRIPTION |
| BOOST JOB |
Pushes the job to the top of the job search results page. Boosted jobs are ordered by date and always rank higher than the most recent jobs without this upgrade, and as a result will rank higher than jobs with the Refresh Job upgrade. |
| REFRESH JOB |
Automatically re-publishes the job every few days (the interval is set by the site-admin in the backend, and this setting applies to all refresh upgrades). Each time it refreshes, the job jumps back to the top of the search results and gets included in job alert newsletters again, as if it were a brand new posting. Job seekers only see the newest (refreshed) date, while recruiters can see both the original posting date and the latest refresh date in their job manager. |
| HIGHLIGHT JOB |
Visually highlights the job in the search results list with a golden background and a badge. The background color can be customized to match the job board's primary or secondary brand color.
|
| FEATURED JOB |
Promotes the job on the homepage, in the "Featured jobs" row. This section shows six jobs at a time, though more jobs can carry the "Featured" upgrade — the displayed set rotates randomly every 30 minutes. |
TOP JOB |
Combines three upgrades into one: Boost Job, Highlight Job, and Featured Job. Jobs with this upgrade are always shown at the top of search results, use a distinct background color and icon (different from regular highlighted jobs), and can appear in their own dedicated paragraph on the homepage (Top jobs element). |
| EXPORT JOB | Adds the job to an XML export feed, which can push the job to third-party sites such as external job aggregators. This upgrade depends on the "XML export" feature being activated first — contact the Project Manager or Customer Success Manager to enable it. |
| MULTI-FRONTEND CROSSPOSTING |
Posts the job to multiple frontends (sites) at once. During checkout, recruiters choose which sites the job should appear on, so the same job can run on several sites managed from the same backend. This upgrade only works for multi-frontend customers — contact the Project Manager or Customer Success Manager to activate it. |
| NOTIFICATION UPGRADE | Sends an email notification to a pre-defined address whenever this upgrade is booked. Useful for selling services performed outside the job board itself, such as social media promotion or other manual upgrades. |
EXTEND JOB RUNTIME |
Extends how long the job stays live by a defined number of days. Can be combined with an automatic email alert to recruiters a few days before the job is about to go offline. |
A few extra settings apply across all upgrade types:
- Notification emails: admins can set a pre-defined email address to receive a notification whenever any upgrade is booked.
- Validity period: each upgrade's validity can be set to match the job's expiration date, or to a shorter, custom period.
- Icons: an icon can be added for each upgrade in the job wizard for a cleaner look — contact the Project Manager or Customer Success Manager to set this up.
Your job board allows high flexibility, so instead of offering these upgrades only one by one, site-admins can also combine several upgrade types into bundles (for example, a "Premium Job" product could be a combination of a single job posting with a “featured job” and “highlight job” upgrades).
