After a new XML importer is completed, it is time to test the imported jobs properly. Testing is an important step, especially in order to identify taxonomy mapping issues and/or incorrectly imported jobs.
Recommended steps during the XML importer setup
It is important to understand that the deletion of already published jobs will result in 404 error pages and may affect your SEO performance. In order to provide you with a safe test environment to review the jobs properly, we advise you to follow the steps mentioned below during the setup.
- Please activate the checkbox "Job needs review".
This allows you to test the imported jobs in advance before they are published.
This checkbox can be deactivated once testing is complete. - Enable the"Exclude from Google 4 Jobs index and sitemaps" checkbox for testing.
- Add the following XPath expression to the"Context" field [position() < 5]:
You can use this expression to limit the number of imported jobs to 5 jobs.
Example: Use the following expression /joblistings/job[position() < 5] in the "Context" field. The exact text depends on the structure of the provided XML feed.
Testing new XML importer
We recommend randomly selecting 8-10 jobs to see how they look in the frontend and confirm, if you are happy with the result or if there is anything that should be improved.
Here are some additional checks we recommend:
- Does the job show a location and a job description (on mobile)?
- Are mandatory taxonomies (employment type and occupational field) mapped correctly?
- Is the application workflow selected and is the application email (for internal ATS) or application link (for external ATS) available?
- Is the organisation assigned to the correct organisation?
