XML importers let site admins import many jobs automatically. This article explains how site admins manage an importer in the admin interface.
How to access an importer
- Go to Jobs > Job Importers or open /admin/content/feed.
- Select the importer you want to check.
- Click "Edit".
- At the top of the page, you find four tabs: View, Edit, Items (the imported jobs) and History.
View tab
The View tab shows the most important details of the importer such as total number of imported items, included products, product assignment, and the last import run. Should you have made changes to the importer, click Import in background to start an import manually. It will run at the next possible time.
Edit tab
This tab allows you to edit the importer's XPath settings. The importer setup is covered in the XML Job Feed Setup article. In addition, you can change the organisation settings, product assignment, and import options.
Organisation Settings
Use these settings to assign imported jobs to organisations (companies) on your site.
Mapping organisations
Tick this option to activate the mapping. If it is off, the importer does not assign jobs to organisations.
Mapping organisation source
Choose how the importer should find the right organisation for each job. The organisation must already exist in your backend.
- Keep the default Organisation name.
- In the field Organisation reference, pick the organisation from the dropdown
Note: If the importer finds no matching organisation, the job is still imported but is not assigned to an organisation
Credit subtraction settings
Credit subtraction takes credits from the organisation's balance when its jobs are imported.
Important: Credit subtraction only works if jobs are mapped to an organisation.
Credit mode
Important: The credit names in the XML must match the credit names in your system.
If the organisation has no credits left: The job is imported, but it gets the state Needs review and is not published.
Automatically add products to imported jobs
If you want to assign existing upgrades to imported jobs, use the field Products. You define whether the product is assigned to all jobs imported from that feed, or whether the products are defined per job.
Same product for all jobs
If you want to add the same upgrade to each job imported from a given XML feed, pick this option and define which product should be added. To add more products, click Add another item and define the next one.
Product defined per job in the XML
If you want to define which products are added per job, switch to this option. You will then see Product XPath, where you define where the product information can be found in the XML.
Important: The product names in the XML must match the product names on your site.
Change Importer Settings
Editing an importer or its settings can change how jobs appear on the frontend.
Change Import Options
Use the Import options tab to control whether a feed is imported automatically, how often imports run, and when the feed should be deactivated.
Enable or disable automatic imports
Use the Active checkbox to control periodic imports:
- Selected: periodic imports are enabled.
- Cleared: periodic imports are disabled for this feed.
Choose the import frequency
In the Import period field, select how often the feed should be imported. You can use the feed type default, which is every 3 hours, or choose between other available options that set an interval in either minutes, hours, days or weeks.
Set an optional deactivation date
If you need to specify the deactivation date for a given importer, use Active until to specify when the feed should be deactivated by entering the deactivation time and date.
Items tab
The Items tab lists all jobs of the importer. Site admins can filter by job title, organisation name, change date, workflow state and job upgrade.
- Job state: Draft, Needs review, Scheduled, Published, Unpublished, Archived.
- Upgrades: shows the active upgrades of each job.
- Action taken: shows what happened in the last run: job was updated, job is expired (published to unpublished), or none.
- Bulk operations: Archive jobs, Unpublish jobs, Mark jobs for reimport (use it to update selected jobs).
- Edit: opens the job in the backend, to review the description, workflow state or publishing dates.
Before editing an imported job, make sure to Disable job updates on the importer or on the job. Otherwise the next import overwrites the changes. For more information, see How can I edit an imported job?
History tab
The History tab shows the jobs imported by the feed and detailed statistics for every importer run.
